Councillor Brent Hoare shared this historic footage (provided by “Ask Roz Blue Mountains”) of the activism against the old “Croc Park” consent approval of thirty years ago.

Thirty years ago residents battled a development consent on the old Croc Park site.

The current fight by residents against the Bodington Hill wildlife resort was preceded 30 years ago by a resident battle against the “Croc Park” development. The proponents of the current “Blue Mountains Wildlife and Tourism Development at 10 Great Western Highway Wentworth Falls” own the consent granted to this earlier project but have not used it to build anything.

Many observers have labeled the situation a zombie development.

Megan Hawley gives the following definition of what a zombie development is.

“The phrase ‘zombie development’ has been used by resident objectors and environmentalists to refer to a development that was approved many years ago but has not been substantially carried out or completed. The phrase has been used particularly in relation to development consents issued for residential subdivisions on greenfield sites.”

A new resident action group called BHWRAG is responding to the contentious proposal to build a huge resort style development in an environmental conservation zone at Wentworth Falls’ Bodington Hill.

A spokesperson said that:
“The Bodington Hill Wildlife Resort Action Group (BHWRAG) will provide voice and advice for residents wanting to have input into the Government’s State Significant Development decision making process.

Residents are alarmed that their elected representatives on the Blue Mountains City Council are cut out of making the final decision on this proposal.”

BHWRAG is urging residents to officially register their interest in the Government’s assessment by visiting its planning portal and clicking ‘Notify Me’.

The proposal’s current plans can be found on the portal at:
